Existing codebases

I do not assume it needs a rewrite.

Most established applications carry history. The useful parts can stay while weak or risky areas are improved as the work moves forward.

  • Understand the existing flows before changing them.
  • Keep useful parts and improve weak areas incrementally.
  • Add tests and monitoring where a change carries real risk.
  • Document the decisions and leave the application easier to continue with.

Experience

Fifteen years in production PHP systems.

I spent five years responsible for the Laravel software behind a Belgian lead-generation business, have worked long term on established Magento and PHP systems, and am currently building a multi-tenant Laravel SaaS product from scratch.
